Brendan Gill, founder and CEO of The BGill Group, is recognized as one of New Jersey’s most influential and effective government affairs experts, political operatives and communication strategists. His more than 20 years of experience in federal, state, and local government include serving as a senior advisor to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, state director for U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, senior advisor to U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, district director for U.S. Congressman Bill Pascrell and Steve Rothman, chief of staff to Assemblyman Peter Eagler, and communications director for the New Jersey Department of Transportation under two commissioners. 

As the architect of the historic 2017 campaign of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Gill led the team that shepherded an unknown candidate from political obscurity to an unprecedented 14-point victory. Brendan has served in a leadership role in every successful statewide Democratic campaign in New Jersey within the past two decades, serving as campaign manager for U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg in 2009 and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker in 2014.

Over the course of this storied career, Brendan has forged close, long-term relationships with elected officials and community leaders, as well as a deep understanding of the diverse communities they serve.  He is an expert at identifying and communicating with those valued community members who command the attention and respect of key decision makers. At The BGill Group, he has amassed a team of veteran political, communications, media and government affairs professionals whose expertise is supported by the ability to leverage a vast network of long-term relationships on behalf of our clients.

Gill also currently serves as an Essex County Commissioner. First elected in 2011, he won reelection in 2014, 2017, and 2020, and served as Board President for three years during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His notable achievements in this role include helping coordinate Essex County’s pandemic response, serving as the President of the New Jersey Association of Counties, being an early proponent and driving force behind the creation of the Essex-Hudson Greenway, upgrading county roads and traffic signals to improve pedestrian, driving and bicycling safety, chairing the ECBCC’s Anti-Gun Violence Committee, leading efforts to ensure the security and integrity of Essex County elections, banning smoking in county parks, and supporting and honoring Essex County’s many diverse communities. 

Brendan serves on the New Jersey Bike/Walk Coalition, is a weekly panelist on WOR’s NJ NOW public affairs program, and appears regularly in the media as a sought-after expert and contributor. He is a member and generous supporter of the NAACP, Seton Hall University Alumni Association, St. Teresa Calcutta Church, Blue Wave NJ, Toni’s Kitchen and NJ Policy Perspective. 

Brendan has received many community and advocacy awards and recognitions for his work as a legislator.
