Leonard M. Luciano, an associate at the BGill Group, brings to his position a decade of experience in campaign and political consulting. His focus is on field work for local, county and statewide elections, as well as public and trade labor union relationships. Mr. Luciano was appointed commissioner of the Essex County Utilities Authority from 2007 to 2011 overseeing solid waste removal and recycling throughout the county. He was then elected to his first full term as Essex County freeholder in November 2011 and re-elected in 2014 and 2017.
Born in Livingston, he currently resides in West Caldwell. Freeholder Luciano most recently served as a field operative and political lead for Phil Murphy during his campaign for New Jersey Governor. Prior to that, Freeholder Luciano was a school teacher and vice president of the Newark Teachers Union Local 481 (AFT) AFL-CIO. During his tenure as a teacher and library media specialist, Mr. Luciano aided students from prekindergarten to fourth grade in an effort to improve their information literacy skills. As a union leader he made decisions on behalf of the membership in areas such as contract negotiations, tenure reform, professional development, and school curriculum.
Luciano has an extensive education that includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in humanities from Montclair State University, a Master of Arts degree in liberal arts from Thomas Edison State University, a teaching certification through Rutgers University, and an educational specialist degree in leadership & administration from Seton Hall University.
