Brendan Gill

Recognized as one of the region’s most influential and effective political strategists, Brendan Gill brings more than 20 years of experience in successful campaign management, government relations, political consulting, and strategic communications. As the president and founder of The BGill Group, Gill has extensive experience with New Jersey’s political and governmental structure, both state and federal, that has resulted in major successes.

Most recently, Gill, as the campaign manager for Phil Murphy, catapulted a little known, political newcomer into the Governor’s office. As the architect of the campaign, he used a strategic grassroots plan, targeting town hall meetings, digital phone banks, third party advocacy, message and media, and political strategic consulting. As a result, Governor Phil Murphy achieved an unprecedented 14-point win.

As Senator Cory Booker’s campaign manager, Gill added to the senator’s win record with four successful elections in two years for the senator, ushering him to a 14-point win. Later, he served as the senator’s senior political advisor, a position he also held with Senator Frank R. Lautenberg. Gill also managed Lautenberg’s historic fifth re-election campaign and then served as his statewide director. In this role, he managed all statewide operations for the senator’s office while communicating directly with the legislative office in Washington, D.C. In addition, Gill has served in the election campaigns of U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, Congresswoman-elect Mikie Sherrill, and former Governor Jon Corzine.

Currently, Gill serves as president of the Essex County Board of Freeholders, where he was honored by the New Jersey Department of Transportation for his leadership on roadway safety issues by introducing and implementing New Jersey’s first countywide Complete Streets policy. He also serves as vice president of the New Jersey Association of Counties and chair of the Montclair Democratic Party. He is a member of the statewide non-profit, the Bike and Walk Coalition.

In 2018, Gill was recognized as one of New Jersey’s most powerful influencers by Insider NJ. That same year, he was also listed as No. 9 on New Jersey Globe’s 2018 Power List, which measures political power on those who impact politics and government in the Garden State. Recently, Gill was also recognized by the Montclair Branch NAACP for his work as the chair of the Montclair Democratic Committee.  In addition, Gill has been recognized as a Rising Star in the Asbury Park Press, and Blue Wave NJ honored him as the recipient of the Public Service Award in 2012. Gill has received accolades and recognition from several publications and organizations across New Jersey, including being named the Irish Echo 40 Under 40 list in 2010, PolitickerNJ’s Operative of the Year in 2008 and the PolitickerNJ’s Power List for ten consecutive years.

Gill is a regular guest commentator on numerous television programs, including NJTV’s political roundtable, My9 NJ Now and Chasing New Jersey, and News 12 NJ Power and Politics. Gill graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall University.
